​Core and Practice (ADULTS) LEVEL 2


The Apprenticeship
This qualification will guide and assess your knowledge and skills.
On completion of the apprenticeship, you will achieve.
 
  • City and Guilds Level 2 in Health and Social Care: Core
  • City and Guilds Level 2 in Health and Social Care: Practice
  • Level 2 Essential Skills in Communication
  • Level 1 Essential Skills in Application of Number
 
Overview
The qualification has two components:

  • The Core qualification: is delivered via monthly workshops which develops and assesses your knowledge
  • The Practice qualification: focuses on and assesses your practical competencies; this will be delivered via self-directed study, producing plans, observations and reflections.
 
Programme Delivery
 
Core Qualification –
This will be delivered within the first 9 months of the qualification.
You will be required to attend 6 workshops (3 hours minimum and attendance must be agreed with your employer)
The workshops will cover Induction, Principles and Values, Health & Wellbeing, Safeguarding, Professional Practice and Health & Safety.
You will be required to sit a final MCQ examination under invigilated conditions, before moving on to the Practice qualification.

Practice Qualification –

To achieve this qualification, you must achieve all mandatory units –
  • Promoting core practice (14 credits)
  • Plus, a minimum of 14 credits from optional group A
  • Plus, a remaining 7 credits from either optional group A or group B.
 
Your Assessor will visit your workplace once a month or if required you will be able to arrange a tutorial at the Training Centre instead of a workplace visit.
Observation will take place in your workplace.  It is your responsibility as the learner to liaise with your employer to decide on the most appropriate time.
 

Apprenticeship timescales –
The full duration of the framework is 19 months, depending on your initial assessment results. 
 
Essential Skills

You will be given the opportunity to complete Essential Skills in Communication Level 2, Application of Number Level 1 or 2 if you have not achieved the GCSE grades A – C.
These qualifications will be delivered in the Training Centre by our staff as part of your main Training Programme.





This course is available as an Apprenticeship Programme through Welsh Government funding for people who are employed in care, but have no formal qualifications in care sector.
This qualification is also available to our Post 16 learners who wish to work in domiciliary care.
