Hen Felin Training was established in 2000 under the development name of Rhondda Special School Development & Training Centre. The Centre provided training through GEST funding for BTEC Level 2 Classroom Assistants to become teaching assistants employed within R.C.T L.E.A.
The success of this contract opened doors with ACT Training, based in Cardiff, which we are proud to be a sub-centre for within RCT. Every year, the Centre has gone from strength to strength, offering the QCF for Teaching Assistants at levels 2 and 3 as a Work-Based Learning Apprenticeship for anyone working in a supportive role in a school with no formal qualifications. We also work with the majority of Comprehensive Schools within RCT to offer both levels 2 & 3 for Teaching Assistants to Form 6 pupils, using local primary schools as placements for our candidates. Since January 2017, Hen Felin Training has been part of the Upper Rhondda Post-16 provision for vocational training, which has enabled any pupil wishing to enter post-16 education the opportunity to apply directly to our Centre, no longer needing a referral from their comprehensive school, unless they are pupils of Treorchy Comprehensive School. We also have access to EMA funding for all eligible candidates. This is an excellent opportunity for all young people within our community to access vocational training within R.C.T. |
